National Curriculum Standard: Stewardship

IFPTI continued to complete the buildout of the National Curriculum Standard (NCS), which is a foundational element of the National Regulatory and Laboratory Training System (NRLTS) for human and animal food regulators. The NCS sets forth the competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities) needed by regulators for successful job performance across all jurisdictions.

During the week of January 29, 2024, IFPTI facilitated an in-person subject matter expert working group focusing on the Stewardship component of the NCS. The working group represented FDA, State, and Local regulatory agencies.

During the meeting, the working group identified content areas relevant to individuals at the Stewardship Level, including Advocacy, Business Acumen, Coalition Building, Leading Change, and Leading People. The group then developed competencies, along with behavioral anchors (evidence of competency) within each content area. The workgroup will continue to build out the NCS over the coming months, focusing on food protection professionals at the management level.
