Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)
IFPTI partnered with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to develop a series of competency-based curriculum frameworks for branches or divisions within the agency. Shown on the right are frameworks developed for CFIA personnel serving in an advisory role (Advisory Framework), personnel who conduct regulatory activities on regulated commodities (Inspectorate Framework), and personnel who provide laboratory science services in support of the agency mandate (Laboratory Framework). Additional frameworks developed with CFIA are tailored to Veterinary Inspectors and Animal Feed Inspectors.
These frameworks will help CFIA: ensure consistent performance expectations and evaluations; increase confidence in the outcomes of activities supporting compliance verification (e.g. laboratory testing, product or facility inspections or audits, etc.); develop tools to assess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of regulatory officials against standardized competencies; identify training gaps and develop missing learning events or experiences; catalog existing learning events or experiences (training, courses, etc.); and create career-spanning professional development learning paths for its employees.
