IFPTI is pleased to announce that Cohort IX Fellow Sara Morrow is the winner of the Dan Sowards Award. The Sowards Award is given each year to the Fellow who demonstrates excellence in conducting and presenting research on a food safety topic, as judged by AFDO’s Professional Development Committee made up of Fellows from previous cohorts. Sara’s research is entitled “Regulation of Edible Hemp Products.” Her research concluded that there could be more guidance for states that are initiating hemp programs; more collaboration between regulatory agencies and the hemp industry in developing programs; and many hemp producers may not be familiar with food safety laws. Her presentation can be viewed at IFPTI Fellowship Cohort IX 2021 Recordings – Association of Food and Drug Officials (afdo.org) and her journal article can be found at Regulation of Edible Hemp Products — IFPTI.
