Catching up with Randy Treadwell

Randy Treadwell was a member of Cohort IV.

At that time, he was the Rapid Response Program Manager at the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Randy led the Washington State Rapid Response Team (RRT) and coordinated multi-agency food and feed-related emergency responses.

Since then, he served as the Animal Feed Program Manager at WSDA, eventually transitioning to Program Manager for the Rapid Response & Emergency Management Program. In this role, he led agency-wide emergency coordination efforts related to food, feed, intentional contamination, radiological threats, flooding, drought, and COVID-19. During this time, Randy also served in the following positions:

  • Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) Board of Directors, Regional Director of the Western States

  • AFDO Board of Directors, Member-at-Large

  • AFDO Board of Directors, Secretary/Treasurer

  • Western Association of Food and Drug Officials, President

  • Partners with a Common Purpose, Chairperson

  • Washington State Food Protection Task Force, Chairperson

In November 2021, Randy joined AFDO as a Project Manager to lead the ongoing development and enhancement of FoodSHIELD, the secure collaboration platform for food safety and public health organizations. In August 2022, Randy also assumed the position of Associate Executive Director for Programs at AFDO. He currently supports 11 professionals who ensure the association effectively supports food and medical product professionals across the nation through the various grants, cooperative agreements, and other projects in AFDO’s portfolio. Randy also coordinates the association’s Healthy People 2030 initiative, bringing together regulatory, industry, and academic partners to develop realistic interventions to drive down foodborne illness numbers in the U.S.

“Almost a decade later, I still consider my experience with the IFPTI Fellowship as one of the most important professional and personal development opportunities I’ve participated in. I keep in touch with my fellow cohort members and we call on each other for guidance and support to this day. The Fellowship played a huge role in helping jumpstart my network of food safety professionals early in my career, and I now consider myself fortunate to be able to call many of them friends. The Fellowship was really a game-changing experience for me.”
