Labeling
The IFSS Basic Level Labeling course provides introductory knowledge, skills, and abilities related to labeling requirements, and the components of human and animal food product labels.
Goal: Participants will be able to recognize label requirements.
Scope: Topics in this course include Foundations, Labeling Components, Labeling Laws and Regulation.
Course Objectives:
Foundations
Recognize the importance of food labels.
Differentiate between a food label and food labeling.
Recognize the purpose of food labels.
Recognize how food labels provide information to consumers.
Identify product label components
Labeling Components
Identify the components of a human food label.
Identify the components of an animal food label.
Differentiate between a principal display panel and an information panel.
Recognize commodities with specific labeling requirements.
Recognize food label dietary claims.
Labeling Laws and Regulations
Identify laws related to food labeling.
Identify agencies that regulate food labeling.
Recognize the role of AAFCO in relation to labeling.
Recognize exemptions from labeling requirements
