During Week 1 fellows focused on professional communication, including written communication, interpersonal skills, professional behavior, and public speaking.  They learned about analytical skills and had an introduction to the two most important components of the program; leadership and the Integrated Food Safety System. The final component of the week included an assessment tool to provide fellows with a foundation for learning about their own temperament and how to communicate with people who function with different temperaments.

The IFPTI Fellowship in Food Protection has been made possible through cooperative agreement funds from the FDA (5U18FD005964) and by additional support generously donated from organizations. Such organizations include FMI Food Industry Association, Meijer, AFDO, the AFDO Endowment Fund, and Publix Super Market Charities for Cohort 9. If you or your organization would like to contribute to the program in an effort to build leaders in the food protection community please contact us or visit for more information.
