Catching Up with Eugene Evans

Eugene Evans was a member of Cohort 4. At that time, Eugene was a Food Inspector 1 with New York State Dept of Agriculture and Markets (NYSDAM).

Since completing the Fellowship, Eugene became a Supervising Food Inspector with NYSDAM, saw the completion of the AFDO Cured, Salted and Smoked Fish Establishments Guidance (Project Lead) and saw its acceptance as part of the 3rd party GFSI-Best Aquaculture Practices-Seafood Processing Standard.

In 2019, Eugene also volunteered with Land O’ Lakes International Venture 37 program as a Seafood Processing Expert in Egypt. He spent 2 weeks in country touring seafood and dairy processing facilities in the Northern Egypt and the Nile Delta providing guidance to industry and the Egyptian regulatory community to improve food safety.

After completing 20 years with NYSDAM in June 2021, Eugene accepted a Biologist position with FDA in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition-Division of Seafood Safety- Seafood Science, Policy and Technology Branch.
