Interactive 3D Models in Training

The transition from traditional in-person training to either online (eLearning) or virtual instructor-led training (vILT) has presented one significant challenge: how to replicate or simulate hands-on experiences with products or devices. In-person training allows participants to handle items, look at them from different angles, and practice using them. In eLearning or vILT, pictures of items can give the participants some idea of what the item looks like, such as a cell phone shown here. However, images do not provide the detail, or closely approximate a real-world experience. One way to meet this challenge is to create an interactive 3-D model, which can provide participants with a richer learning experience. With a 3-D model, the learner is able to zoom in, rotate, and interact with an object. Additionally, the experience can be enhanced with an audio commentary that can actually walk the learner through the 3-D interaction. An example of an interactive 3-D model of the same cell phone can be experienced by scanning via the QR code or button below.
