IFPTI conducted a situational analysis through a series of in-country interviews with the Ethiopia Food and Drug Authority, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture, and other stakeholders.  Findings from the analysis, along with research IFPTI conducted on international food control best practices, served as the foundation for the development of a National Food Safety Strategy, which provides an overarching framework of the key elements of an effective food control program, including regulatory foundations, management and oversight, resources and staff elements, control elements, science and technical applications, and communication.

Additionally, IFPTI prepared a comprehensive Implementation Plan, comprising a series of tactics and activities narrowly tailored to the national strategy and contextualized for the Ethiopian food safety context.
